Blast from the waaaay past

Ok... so when I was younger, one of my favorite movies that played just about non stop on HBO in the day time, was a film called Airborne.
It was such a cool movie to me at the time. I loved to rollerblade, and it was just a neat movie.

Well last night, it was on the HBO family channel. I guess it is a family friendly movie. But mostly it was fun for me to look back at one of the movies that shaped me to who I was at that time.

So the movie was made in 1993... which means I didn't see it till atleast 94, maybe later.
But either way, looking back at it... it shaped my looks, my attitude, my thoughts and interests, and maybe my speech for a while too!

So I didn't surf, and I'm not exactly a beach head or anything... but seriously looking back at it, it's weird to see it all come together when you're older and can understand who and what influenced you.

First few things right off the bat that I notice. Black Jack and Seth Green were large rolls in this movie. I remembered Seth Green, but I didn't realize that was Black Jack till I looked back and saw him again! Most of the actors in the movie did something with their careers! which is great!
But the next thing I realize is that Stewart Copeland did the score!!! (and yes, it was very good) Maybe that's why I got into drumming! Maybe it wasn't really Kris Keeton after all! (and I can't leave out Joe Berry, Josh Hunt and Mikey Cowan for the extra early influences)
Next... long hair. Yes my friends... I had long nappy hair at one time, trying to be cool like Mitchell off this movie. (and I think Mikey and Joe are partly to blame on that too!) Didn't work though. since I was just a little skinny punk, it just looked... dumb.
I also remembering slightly wanting a ear ring till I remembered about the pain factor.
Baggy jean shorts became the thing to wear, especially while I was rollerblading. And cool helmets were a must along with knee pads.
There are other things too that really reminded me of now too! To this day, I still say "Picking up what I'm putting down?" And that was from the movie! I don't know if that's where I got that from. But I know I also used to say dude a lot. But that's more of a culture thing I think.
However... if you've known me within the past 6 - 10 months... you might know me by the nickname, "Moon-dawg" courtesy of Casey Orr. That's what Jack Black's character calls Mitchell at one point in the movie! HOW WEIRD!

Since I've taken a little while to write this... more thoughts have come through my mind.
Talking to my new pal Gregg Rivers down here in Jackson, we got to talking about Chuck Norris... and of course I had to tell him about all the fun Adam Bittel and I had talking Chuck Norris facts back when I was in Murray. But after sitting at a stop light for a second laughing about it... I remembered back to another favorite movie of mine!!! Sidekicks, which also played ad nausea on HBO, and may have had some influence on that long hair thing... and maybe Home Improvement too... but that's not a proven fact quite yet. ;-)
HIII-YA!!! ninja chop. Did you know ninja is pronounced neen-ja? We're dumb Americans that can't speak correctly I guess.
So I just needed to tell you how fun it was to see this old movie of mine. And I think I took this opportunity to name drop a few times too... wow, very unlike me.

I think this post could have actually been meaningful if I let it be about who and what molded me growing up... but that would actually take me putting time and thought into this... and we both know that's not going to happen.

New Blog!

This is a new blog for me...

I'm trying to decide what I want this place to be though.
Do I want to use this for my person blog? Or should I use it as an outlet to write about my interest in radio? Or should I use it for something else like Tennis, or music, or what little bit of technology I know?

You should let me know, and that's what this will be.

Keep in mind, I've already got my own blog at evanelrod.com
But I'd like to have a place where I could write about only one thing.

fun fun fun

This update is more for me actually. Seems like as each day passes lately, I keep saying... hmmm, I should blog about that! and then something else will happen. So I'll see if I can recap all that I remember to talk about.

GO COLTS! Good game, fun times had by all... except by bears fans that is. Also, I learned that deep down, I despise high tech electronics because I can't have them. If I could have a nice new TV, sound system, and next generation gaming system... I would be forced to love them. But since I've got a 19 inch free Sanyo TV that was given to me years ago, a sound system that has been pieced together from different systems I've owned in the past (coupled with my audio brilliance ;-) ) And the first version of xbox that I only got because of Topspin... I'll just keep despising the good stuff.

So i'm sort of moved in... I know I keep saying that... but it's true. I just haven't gotten over that hump. Can't decide on a replacement computer desk, and other stuff. Though I think Brooke has it all mapped out in her head how it's all going to work... I still just can't pull the trigger because there's too many variations I think I could be missing out on. That makes no sense what so ever. Do they do makeover shows for apartments? There ya go! a new reality show for TLC or something!

I did get cable and internet Tuesday. Cool stuff... oh wait, I haven't even turned on my computer since I left Chattanooga!!! Thank God... er, Forever Communications for this laptop.... But seriously, the cable is cool because I get movies again. I was looking forward to getting the sports stuff, all until I stayed in last night, did no work, and watched Stealth on the Encore Action channel on a jerry rigged entertainment center. Fun stuff... not that great of a movie though. But i've seen much worse.

Check this crap out!!! So it begins. I got a telemarketer call on my cell phone last night. It said unknown, but I had gotten an unknown last week from Charter, (when I almost got screwed ordering service off the internet) So I decided to answer the call. The guy even said, "i know we're calling your cell phone tonight, but..." I quickly declined their invitation to earn $10 by doing something i wouldn't pay attention to either. And before I pressed end, I told him I appreciated him calling. I think i got that trait from dad... I've heard him tell that to telemarketers before. I got to thinking about me saying that when I hung up. Maybe I made a mistake by saying that. Do you think he's hooked up to a computer and typed in, "Caller really appreciated us calling... call back with new promotions" ????????????? AM I SCREWED? Will I get calls all the time, slowing taking off my plan minutes? Why is this still a business? Does telemarketing actually work? If it's marketing... don't you think they'd be smart enough to know the people they can't market to? Like me on a cell phone on a night I'm trying to relax for two seconds. That job must suck more than your job... if you have a job. I used to feel sorry for them slightly. Can you imagine how many times they get the seinfield joke? Or any of the other standard hangups. But you know what... do your job... call the people that want to be called. And you might want to check the do not call registry first, because I'm pretty dang sure i put my cell phone number on that list too.

Enough on that.

Job is coming right along I think. I'm running into issues here and there... but that was to be expected. Nothing ever worth while is perfect, right?

I think I'm done for now. I know I'm forgetting a bunch of stuff, but there will be other chances. I think I'm slowly going to turn the blog into a radio thing again... posting my thoughts on this new position I'm in and stuff... make it more interesting to others. Or just less interesting to you, and still no interest with others. Either one... the site will continue to not flourish, which is fine.

Winter Wonderland

ok, so I've been meaning to update everyone for a while now.

I'm moved in, here in Jackson... finally. In fact, let me just rundown the month.

I worked, stayed in a hotel, and left town every weekend for different engagements.

One of those engagements included the end of an actual engagement, and the beginning of an actual marriage! Congratulations again to Matt and Elizabeth. Guys, if you read this, I wish you the best of luck. It was a beautiful weekend to what I expect will be a beautiful marriage. EAP, you'll still be Elizabeth Ann, even though you've got a new last name at the end of that.

When I get some more photos, I'll see if I can dig up the memories out of my brain and type them out here with some images so you can see just how classy the weekend was. (This is obviously the New York wedding I've talked about on here... atleast I think I've talked about it.)

The job is really starting to move along. I'm getting some things moving in the right direction, and I think Bowling Green is on the right page now after a meeting this week.

I think we'll finish moving in this weekend... so I'll let you know how awesome my new digs are next week... But i'll say this, it better be awesome for what I'm paying!!!

This is going to be shorter than I planned. But I plan on editing some more later on too.

But just in case I don't get around to it before Sunday...

Go Colts!!!

Oh yea, it's snowing right now too... that's the reason for the title.
